Xerox launched the first commercially available plain paper photocopier in 1959 and has been synonymous with printing, copying, and quality -- the “Kleenex” of the photocopier world -- ever since.
You rarely hear someone ask for a tissue. They ask for a Kleenex.
For decades, you didn’t copy a document, you Xeroxed it.
While other brands have entered the market since then, Xerox is still a leader in quality and one of the first names anyone thinks of when they think “photocopy.” The video below shows this brilliantly.
How synonymous is Xerox with “copier” or “photocopier”? This dramatization of a verbatim court deposition illustrates the point -- and the increasingly exasperated lawyer is hilarious.
The buildup is worth it, but you can cut to the chase by starting play around 5:45.
Xerox Equals Reliability and Usability
Xerox printers are some of the best around, but don’t take our word for it. Here’s a recap of recent awards.
The Xerox AltaLink C8030 (outstanding 30 ppm color copier MFP) and C8035 (outstanding 35 ppm color copier MFP) each received a coveted BLI pick award this past summer.
From the Keypoint Intelligence report by Buyer’s Lab:
“Xerox’s Pick winners excel far beyond the needs of everyday office workflow,” said Mikolay. “The devices provide an incredibly user-friendly experience thanks to a tablet-style interface with slide/swipe navigation, as well as access to ConnectKey apps from the Xerox App Gallery to speed up and simplify everyday tasks. Robust secure print measures and McAfee embedded security protect sensitive files. The devices also produced impressive, high-quality printed output. Excellent reliability, easy-to-replace supplies, and outstanding feedback all but eliminate extended downtime for service.”
The Xerox AltaLink C8055 Color MPF was the best overall in the Printers category in CRN’s 2017 roundup of products of the year.
For those of you who need more printing power at higher volumes, the Xerox Versant 180 Press was BLI’s selection as the Pro Award Color Light Production 2018 Press of the Year.
Xerox Equals Security
Cybercriminals look for any opening to attack businesses. Xerox works to close the door on cybercriminals using copiers and printers to get into your network.
The Common Criteria Certification is an international standard (ISO 15408) that sets specific information assurance goals, including strict levels of integrity, confidentiality, and availability for systems and data. It is a requirement for hardware and software devices used by the federal government on national security systems.
Many models in the Xerox VersaLink, WorkCentre, and ColorQube families are Common Criteria certified.
Some are also FIPS 140-2 (a series of security requirements issued by the National Institute of Standards and Technology) and McAfee Security certified.
Xerox Equals Energy Savings
Saving energy is good for the environment. It’s also good for the budget. Xerox has a long-term focus on producing energy-efficient devices, including creating toner that requires less heat (and therefore less energy) to use.
Various Xerox devices adhere to a variety of energy-saving standards. Energy Star (US), Blue Angel (Germany), and ECOLOGO (Canada) are all certifications of environmental friendliness and low energy use. When you have dozens of devices, shaving the energy cost to use the equipment by even pennies a day can add up to hundreds of dollars over the lifetime of the equipment.
EPEAT is a global registry of environmentally friendly devices. Manufacturers can self-declare after verification, but are also subject to independent expert verification after being added to the registry.
